The Orchestra of St. John’s is the only professional paid chamber Orchestra in Howard County and the surrounding counties. While the Orchestra holds its concerts at St. John’s Episcopal Church, thus the name of the Orchestra, no money is paid to the Church. Although the Church does provide the venue, it does not monetarily support the Orchestra.

The Board of Directors of the Orchestra is holding a walk-a thon fundraiser on May 15, 2010, at Centennial Park.  Similar to the March of Dimes walk-a-thon, our walkers will raise money by soliciting friends, family, and neighbors to be sponsors.

After speaking with several teachers from various schools, it is very clear that students are always looking for opportunities to raise money for their many school functions. We would like to invite your students to participate in this venture to raise money for their school activities. Since we are organizing this event, little time and effort is required of you. Therefore, we ask that 50% of what they raise to go to The Orchestra of St. John’s, and that 50% go to support students’ activities. While raising money for their causes, students will also be providing a valuable community service by contributing to an outstanding Howard County organization. In addition, the school system has assumed us that this effort may  be used to fulfill the student’s community service learning requirement.

General Walker Information

1. Please go online and print the donar sheet (click on the image above).
2. Please go online and print the information regarding The Orchestra of St. John’s.
3. All donations will be collected by the walker and turnned in on 5/15 at the registration pavilion prior to walking.
4. Checks should be made payable to St. John’s Friends of Music.
5. Registration is between 10:00AM and 2:00PM at Pavilion A in Centennial Park located off of Route 108. The walk will end at 4:00PM..
6. The Walk-a-Thon will take place rain or shine.
7. Walkers obtaining sponsorship for $100 or more will receive special offerings and discounts from Rita’s, located on Frederick Road and St. John’s Lane.
8. Student walkers interested in acquiring credit toward their community service learning requirements should obtain the appropriate forms from  guidance couselors, and bring then to the walk to be signed.
